Content Introduction

Gemini Notebook is an AI-powered research and thinking partner grounded in your materials. This capability empowers you to implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles at scale.

We will focus on various multimodal features of Gemini Notebook that will help convert your lengthy course materials into engaging and accessible content. We will see how Audio Overviews provide auditory accessibility, Video Overviews offer visual engagement for complex topics, and Slide Decks synthesise core concepts into structured presentations.

By grounding these in your specific course materials, you can create accessible, multimodal and multilingual content that reaches students across learning barriers.

Practice

Now, it is your turn to practice. You can utilise a provided sample document, or upload a core reading from one of your own courses.

Your task:

  1. Navigate to notebook.google.com

  2. Click the New Notebook button to start a blank project.

  3. A source menu will appear. Click Upload to add your sources. Try uploading a diverse mix of relatable academic resources, such as chapters from core textbooks or your existing course material., past question papers, peer-reviewed research papers, links to NPTEL or YouTube videos and relevant academic websites.

  4. Go to the Studio Panel on the right and generate a Slide Deck to create an engaging visual presentation.

  5. Next, navigate to the top right of the Notebook Guide to the Audio Overview section and click Generate.

  6. Now, generate a Video Overview to visualise key concepts. (Multilingual check: Ask the Notebook to summarise the document in any language of your choice to demonstrate how the notebook facilitates multilingual access.)

  7. You can also click the Reports button and choose to create a Study Guide. Watch as it generates FAQs, Glossary terms, and Quiz questions. Critically evaluate the resulting terminology- is it accurate to your discipline?

  8. You can easily share this customised notebook with your class. Click the Share button in the top right corner to generate a shareable link, which you can post directly into your Google Classroom or email to your students.

If you do not have an example ready, you are welcome to use this link to examine a notebook to examine the results.

Reflection

  • How might you strategically adjust your input (perhaps adding a "context document" with your specific instructions) to tailor the overview for different course levels or student populations?

  • What other practical ways can you integrate Gemini Notebook to support diverse learners in your classroom?
